Well, that was fast.

Amid rumors that the Packers may apply the franchise tag to Matt Flynn in order to trade him for a draft pick, Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the Packers will cut veteran left tackle Chad Clifton and re-structure the contract of Donald Driver. While there’s no guarantee these two moves, should they in fact happen, are related to Flynn’s situation, it would be quite a coincidence if they are not.

Update: 6:45 PM Friday – Packer Report made a small, somewhat cryptic post of its own moments later refuting the Yahoo! report (sort of). Only time will tell who has it right.

Earlier, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel hinted that Driver and Clifton could be cut if the Packers planned to tag Flynn.
