Chris Canty arrived in Green Bay Wednesday night, got a medical checkup , and is visiting with Packers officials today. This according to Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press Gazette:

Brad Blank, Canty’s agent, said that as of mid-afternoon he hadn’t talked to Canty or the Packers. He said the Packers probably will want to examine the results of Canty’s medical exam before deciding whether to offer a contract, and that decision could come after Canty has left Green Bay.

It sure doesn’t sound as if anything is imminent. Canty, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Giants, would be a welcome addition to a defensive line that failed all year to move the pocket and make things easier for Clay Matthews and company.

As always, money is an issue. The Packers are rumored to be preparing a contract extension for Aaron Rodgers, and will also need to re-sign others, like Clay Matthews and B.J. Raji, in the coming years.

Last week, Dougherty said the Packers may also have interest in Cullen Jenkins, who was recently cut by the Eagles.
